Hello everyone: I have a laptop computer running JAWS. I am wondering how to make the french accents? How do those of you with laptops do it? I want to be able to write in Frenchf and use the accents to do so! Thanks!!

eloquence comes with a french synthesiser which you can find in the "synth language" option in the jaws menues but, having used it, it's not that brilliant but certainly better than nothing

ok, but how do I type in the accents on the letters using my keyboard? For example, how would I write the verb ecouter. The first e is an e accent agiu.

Hey Katie. You need to set your keyboard, under Windows, to French National or French Canadian. Depending on the version of Windows you have, I think there are different ways to do this. I don't know the technical specs of Windows installstions on this matter, but I can help you out after the fact if you want help telling which accents are where.

Katie, which version of JFW are you running? If you've got like um... 6.0 or above, I think you can press insert 4 for a bunch of character choices.

Ok, so the insert four thing worked. However, I did notice the only accents it had were a acute, c cidilla, e acute, i acute, o acute, u acute, and y acute and their capital counterparts. Will this be enough for the French specification, or is their something else I should be doing too to make this work? Thanks soo much everyone as always!

This will not be sufficient. You will need to change your Windows keyboard layout to either French national or French Canadian. You are missing all circumflex and grave accents as well as some others. i know there are ascii values for these, and if someone can give you a cheat sheet with these numerical values, you'll also be home free. Cheers.
